Holiday weekend - art projects

Anthony was off school Friday and will be off Monday for Labor Day.  Emily will be off on Monday too.  Emily enjoyed her sleepover and is spending the day with Grandma and Grandpa.  I got a call from Grandma last night saying that Anthony wanted to come home.  I don't know why he ever asks to have a sleepover because every time he does, he never wants to stay.  Grandpa dropped him off and he and Daddy and I watch Yes Dear in the bed.  When Aubrey woke up this morning, I asked her where Emily was  Aubrey looked over at Emily's empty bed.  We tried calling her, but she said she didn't want to talk.  So we had fun without her.  We took turns playing her bath tub toy flute. (the one Aunt Kim gave her for her birthday.  She would play and then giggle and then put it up to my mouth so I could take a turn. She crawled all over the place and several times she took several steps walking before she would fall down.  She played with Emily's Dora microphone.  She loves that toy.  I can't believe I didn't want to buy it because I  thought Emily would like it at first and then forget she had it.  Both the girls love it.  Then we watched some nursery rhyme videos on youtube.  Aubrey kicked and danced to the music.  Her favorite was Head Shoulders, Knees and Toes.  She played in her playpen for a little while and Anthony joined her.  He taught her how to make music on her cheeks by turning them into drums.  They played while I made Aubrey's handprint ornament Grandma got me several months ago.  I think I waited a little to long to make it, because Aubrey's hand took up almost the entire circle and there was barely room to write her name.  I should have ignored the suggestions that the directions came with.  It suggested you cut a lock of hair and press it onto the ornament before baking.  That was a bad idea.  There was hair everywhere and I couldn't get it all off.  I tried poking a small hole and pushing the hair inside before baking.  That didn't work either.  I got off as much hair as I could and I'm thinking I might be able to come up with some sort of tiny trinket to glue over the hole. When Emily came home from Grandma's she was hungry.  I taught her how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  She was excited to be able to do it herself.

I bought some finger paint yesterday and asked the kids to each make me some artwork so I can frame it on the wall.  Anthony wasn't really into it, especially when I told him not to paint trees or his usually turkey hand, that I wanted handprints or designs.  He thought before he started.  He doesn't like to do thinks unless he has a plan and he can do it perfect.  Emily on the other hand, dug right it.  She covered her whole paper and made a second picture.  Aubrey is going to be quite the artist.  At first she thought she was supposed to eat the paint.  I don't think she like the flavor.  She cried until I washed her mouth out.  She had to be reminded not to put her hands in her mouth again, but she definitely understood what she was supposed to do with the paint.  She dipped her fingers and painted her picture. Later when they used brushes, Aubrey only had to be shown once what to do.  She's a fast learner.
