Things are looking up. Today was Emily's 5th day of school. She was pleasant and happy as can be when I was helping her get ready this morning. She held my hand as I walked her to class. Ms. Rachel suggested I show her the hamster someone brought for show and tell. I walked her to the rug where the other kids were watching Scooby Doo. Ms. Rachel was ready to help me leave the room. She had to hold Emily back but I'm pretty sure she didn't cry. When I got there this afternoon she was sitting at the table in her chair. The other kids were sitting on the mat but Emily didn't look upset at all. I was quiet so she wouldn't know I was there. She heard Natalie say hi to me and when Emily turned around and saw me, she was grinning from ear to ear. She told me how much she loved me and missed me. When I asked if she was having a good day or a bad day, she said a good day. I took her to the bathroom since I was pretty sure she held it all day again. There was a tiny poop in the toilet and Emily didn't know what to do. I told her to flush it and the toilet bubbled and splashed water on her. (She later described it to Grandma as, "It went KaBOOM and was just like a volcano," which it was.) Ms. Rachel said she did about the same. She didn't participate with their classwork, but she did sit down every time Ms. Tania came in the room. That's because Ms. Tania tells her if she doesn't participate, she'll have to come sit in the office with her all day, and Emily doesn't want to do that. She didn't sleep or lay down at naptime, but she did quietly sit on her cot. I think Emily prides herself in not doing anything the entire day, because in the mornings when I ask her if she thinks she will play with her friends, she says, "I'm not gonna do nothing." And when I pick her up she says, "I didn't do anything all day." She always says it with a smile and pride in her voice. Maybe she set some sort of goal for herself that she won't have fun. I don't know. On the way out the door, there was a color chart for ordering t-shirts. Emily picked out the colors she wants. I couldn't believe she didn't pick another shade of purple. She picked yellow, turquoise, lime green, and light pink. Her homework this weekend is to bring in a picture of her with her Grandparents. Ms. Rachel is going to make a poster with all the students and their grandparents. We will have to take a good picture of them together this weekend. I let her ride up front in the car for the first time on the way home. She was proud of herself and said she felt like a big girl. She must have been starving from not eating all day, because she ate her entire lunch and the snacks I packed her as soon as we got home. Grandma had stayed with Anthony and Aubrey while I went to pick Emily up from school. When I got back she sent me to the store and to Dominos for pizza. We had dinner and I gave the girls a bath. Anthony and Emily asked to have a sleepover with Grandma. It's just me and Aubrey tonight and Aubrey is in bed. The house sure is quiet.

| Aunt Kathy and Uncle Joe text to check on Emily every day to see how she's doing in school. Today they sent a picture of Uncle Joe waving to her. |
