Tonight was cub scouts. Anthony, Emily, and I went to Anthony's den meeting while Aubrey stayed with Grandma and Grandpa. Akela Mel invited Dennis the beekeeper to the meeting. He brought his computer and showed the kids a slideshow he made with bee pictures and explained to them how pollination works and told us about the three types of honeybees. Each hive has one queen, the worker bees, (all females) and drones. (all males, and we learned that the males don't have stingers.) He said that a queen bee can make from 1000 up to 1500 eggs each day. He explained about breeding (vaguely) and explained how hives work. He also told us what the world would be like without bees and that without bees, we wouldn't have one third of the foods we eat. He explained pollination. We even learned that bats are also pollinators. He explained a lot more, but I didn't hear it all because Emily wanted me to keep her and another cub scout's sister, Kara, company on the playground. Kara is also four years old. She's a tiny little girl. She's very sweet and friendly. Dennis even brought one of his own hives and honey made by his bees and even some beeswax. Our weekly dues went to buy each of the boy some beeswax. Jayden got to try on a beekeepers protective suit. All they boys were fascinated and learned a lot at the meeting.
